One of my mentors told me that I was too focused on myself and needed to focus more on service.
Insert record scratch here.
I was CRUSHED.
I immediately thought "oh my God, am I???"
I journaled, meditated, made a gratitude list... I did #allthethings to try to check myself. None of that helped though, and I was still thinking about what she said days later.
And then it hit me. This bothered me SO much because
this wasn't my truth.
It bothered me because I took what someone else said as truth without checking in with myself first. I automatically went into fix mode and told myself I was wrong (and ultimately, that I wasn't good enough.)
I was uncomfortable because what she said was actually rubbing up against one of my fears about speaking my truth (yep, I have them too!) which is being misunderstood. In this moment, I was not only being misunderstood, but it was by someone I looked up to.
When I realized this, the discomfort went away immediately. The embarrassment, not-enoughness, fixing, crushed heart... it all disappeared, and what took it's place was love and understanding.
❤️ Love for her. Love for me. Love for the lesson. ❤️
And I clearly saw my truth: The entire reason I'm a coach and do this entrepreneur thing is because I want to make a difference in people's lives. I want to inspire and coach and be the best me I can be FOR people. And yes, I want to make way more money doing this and THAT'S OK because the amount of money I make is directly related to the amount of value I'm giving.
I wanted to tell you this because I want to inspire you to really know what you believe and not just accept what other people say as your truth.
I had a past client that was told she was shy her whole life, so it became part of her identity. Until one day during a session she really took a look at that belief and was like "wait a minute, I'm actually NOT SHY AT ALL!"
➡️ You decide who you are ⬅️
So next time you feel triggered, ask yourself:
-What is my truth?
-Is there any truth in what this person is saying? (be honest, this is a good opportunity for growth)
-What are they mirroring back to me?
-What lesson can I learn from this?
If what someone says doesn't sit right with you, no matter who they are - coach, mentor, family member, partner, bestie, mastermind group - stand in YOUR OWN truth.
